Microchip Seminar: Capacitive touchscreens surround us. We interact with them daily on our phones, tablets, laptops, smart home thermostats and appliances, and modern cars. It’s easy to take this functionality for granted and set relatively low expectations for touchscreen operation in harsh environments. Microchip is leveraging patented technology to raise the bar and bring touchscreens to much more challenging environments under its maXTouchTM brand. In this talk we will explore how touchscreens can function reliably in electrically noisy environments, with thick multi-finger gloves, in the rain and with highly conductive cleaning fluids like ammonia and bleach. We’ll explore functional safety and explain how systems can automatically shut down in a safe manner when touch system faults are detected. We’ll talk about security and using up to 10mm thick cover glass to protect systems from intrusion combined with encryption. We’ll also talk about innovative new human machine interface capabilities such as touchless gesturing as well as adding mechanical capacitive knobs and buttons to touchscreens without any special touch sensor patterning. Finally, we’ll explain how you can engage with us and incorporate this leading-edge technology into your next touchscreen designs. Distributed in San Diego by Arrow Electronics
