Plating on plastics (POP) is a mature process commonly used for cosmetic, electronic, wear and protective purposes for molded plastic parts.
This seminar will explore the challenges created by the wide variety of 3D printed resins, the morphology of the printed parts and the geometric freedom additive manufacturing allows.
An overlooked aspect of electroplated coatings is their mechanical stiffness and strength which can be used to dramatically improve durability of AM plastics. The seminar will review processing differences of molded vs. printed plastics, how to estimate the properties of plated plastic parts with rule of mixtures analysis and review some of the unique applications of this technology.
